If the church has agreed that every member will abide by it, it isn't outdated at all. If a church agrees by some other set of rules, that would be fine too. If a church doesn't even have a written covenant, that's cool also. It's just up to the church.
Any business or group can make a contract whereby it's members abide. This is no different.

ReplyDeleteI used to hand out small copies of the church covenant to new members. I don't anymore and I'm not sure why.
The church covenant is not scripture, but is scriptural and an important guide for a church, as well as a resource and reminder of certain principles.
In modern times, I do not see it displayed in churches as much as I used to.
